I thought that I would give everyone a head start for when they come and paint with us this March break by putting a couple a pointers into the blog!

QUICK TIPS AND REMINDERS TO A BEAUTIFUL PIECE!

 1.       Press lightly with the pencil and use your finger to erase.  Talk to us first before you start drawing on the piece because we can help you figure out the best way to go about painting your piece!

2.     Use 3 layers to achieve the best solid finish.  Smooth, thin and even layers.  Thick does not equal multiple layers it just means trouble!  Remember…NO BLOBS, NO GLOBS!!!!!

3.     Let the paint dry between each layer!!!  Check that it is dry by sight NOT by feel.  It will always feel dry because it is a clay based paint.  You will know when it is dry because the paint changes colour and becomes lighter and chalky looking.

4.     Use a different paint brush for each colour.  These paints don’t mix to make other colours, they just get MUCKY!  We don’t like to use water because it dilutes the paint and doesn’t have as vibrant finish among other problems!.  Plus, who wants to bother washing their brushes?  You came to have fun, not do chores!  Let us do the messy work for you!

5.     Use the appropriate size brush for the area being painted…big areas need large brushes, details need smaller brushes.  Let us know if you need larger or smaller brushes cause we have a secret stash!

6.     If you want white leave it.  It all gets glazed and will be shiny after firing.

7.     Always go from light to dark.  Because it is a layering type of paint, dark colours can cover light colours but light colours CANNOT go over dark colours without the dark colour peeking through.  Talk to us when you are designing your piece if you want to layer your colours!

8.     Always use black last.  It is the darkest colour and will cover everything.  If you are detailing or doing eyes, you only need 1 layer, if you are doing large areas than do 3 layers.

Both our paint and our glaze is lead free, non-toxic and dinnerware safe!

ALL of our paint washes off clothing simply by throwing them in the washing machine…fabulous!!

Most of all relax, have fun, be creative and have patience!

Our Halloween party was a spooky success!

I just wanted to thank the ghouls and goblins who participated in our Annual Halloween extravaganza.  We painted pillowcases to take trick or treating, ate some pizza and put together some huge creepy spiders like "Creepy Harry" our studio spider!

I know that we had a blast with you and hope that you had some fun with us as well.  We hope to see everyone next year!

All Fired Up and Sickkids team up in November

During the month of October, we held a fundraising drive to raise money for SickKids Foundation to benefit cancer research for children.  We want to thank everyone for coming in and painting with us.  To date, we have raised over $100 for this amazing cause but we want to do more so we are going to continue through November.  We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those who donated directly to Sickkids Foundation through their website.

With your help, we are going to donate $1 from each sale in November to SickKids Foundation to benefit cancer research for children.  This is the first time that we have undertaken something so special and together with you we can make a difference and help SickKids in their vision: Healthier children. A better world.

So come on in and paint with us this November and help raise money for these children who need us most.

You can learn more about Sickkids Foundation by visiting www.sickkidsfoundation.com and see what you can do to help!
